AAT Student Stories: Danni Bamber | AAT Level 2 Certificate

Having successfully gained her Level 2 Certificate in Accounting with ICS Learn, Danni is now working towards achieving the Level 3 Diploma, quoting that it's "never too late to make a change!"

I am employed by my local council and had been working in the Revenue and Benefits department for 16 years. There was little opportunity for progression and having been in the same department for so long, I began to feel unchallenged and so started to think about whether to make a change in my career.

I had developed an interest in the financial aspects of my job and decided to research how I could make a move into that area. That was when I discovered the AAT course.

I was really interested in the new qualifications 2022 course but had to wait until September when it started. I knew that working full time and studying would be challenging and so I needed to find a provider that would work well for me. That’s when I decided upon ICS Learn.

The course was online so I could fit it in around my work, studying when I wanted and was able to, rather than having to commit to specific times attending evening classes.

The content was clear and well structured, and my tutor was on hand if required. I received feedback on assessments in good time and there is also a student community for support and for asking questions. I completed my AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting with 93% distinction in June.

Just prior to my final exam I saw a job advertised within the finance department at work. It was for a Procurement Governance and Systems Officer.

The job description looked interesting and tied in with a lot of the content I had been studying as part of my certificate in accounting.

I applied and was offered the position which I accepted. I started my new job, on a higher grade and salary at the end of May.

During my interview, I advised that I was studying the AAT certificate and I was told when being offered the position, that my willingness to take on studying in my own time had partly informed the decision to offer me the job. I am settling into my new role now and really enjoying it.

I am due to start the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting in September. In such a short space of time, I have developed my knowledge, skills and understanding of accounting, along with gaining a promotion.

I have high hopes for developing my career further after achieving Level 3 and hopefully Level 4.

I’m 43 years old - it’s never too late to make a change in career, or to restart studying and from my experience, I would recommend ICS Learn as a training provider.
