AAT Student Stories: Jasmin C. | AAT Level 2 Certificate

Nail Technician, Jasmin, is studying the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping so that she can run her business more efficiency and without the help of an accountant. 

I recently left my corporate job to pursue a career as a nail technician and wanted to further educate myself on Bookkeeping to help me run my business more efficiently.

Although I have an education to bachelor's degree level, I wanted to further expand my knowledge on business including bookkeeping, so I move towards doing my own accounts vs an accountant.

My main goal is to become qualified to Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping, once qualified I’ll then review to see if any additional courses may help me. I’m also considering bookkeeping or other small businesses to help me gain additional income and experience.

My career challenges are trying to keep costs down, currently I pay my own accountant but would love to be able to bring all the bookkeeping in house my expanding my own knowledge. Gaining this qualification will help in doing so.

The learning platform is easy to navigate, understand and follow. The mixture of quick knowledge checks, quizzes, videos and mock exams offers enough options to aid learning.

It also makes tracking progress easy, breaking into 3 sections for example helps with motivation.

My tutor (Shelley) has been really helpful, explaining in videos simply. Marking and providing feedback on my mock exams promptly with specific constructive advice on how to improve/what sections to focus on moving forward.

With my work as a nail technician, I work 5 days a week with Sunday’s & Monday’s off. The online learning allows me to pick up as and when I can without pressure.

Studying with ICS Learn means I can expand my knowledge and grow my small business to the next level, giving me confidence to take more tasks in house in the short term and offer my services to other self-employed individuals in the long term.

One positive is that I’ve expanded my knowledge on maths in general, I always thought this lacked but studying this course has shown me I can work in that way and my knowledge on the basics has improved so much. Giving me an extra lens on how to run my business more efficiently.

I would and have recommended you to others. Some of my friends are looking into bookkeeping as a part time role so have suggested they study with yourselves to get their accreditation.

My advice would be to not be put off my enrolling in an online only course as the support available is extensive and I feel like I’ve had excellent value for my investment.
