CIPD Student Stories: Leanna Oomajee | Level 5 Associate Diploma

Leanna is currently one module in and studying the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management. Read about her experience so far.

I recently took on a role as a Finance and HR Coordinator, finance has always been forte so HR was an area that I was not familiar with.

I had previously worked in roles that touched on HR but not to the level that I would be working in at present. I researched relevant qualifications to study, and CIPD seemed to be the most useful for my role.

After a lot of reading and costing, I decided to call ICS Learn and ask them for some guidance around CIPD levels. 

The sales person advised I enrol on the  CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma and there was also a promotion on at this point, so I took it as a sign and signed up! There was plenty of information online and being able to contact the advisors via phone or email reassured me. 

I did have some reservations about online, mainly that there would be less structure, however this was fine, there are calendars and a study plan to ensure that you can keep up to date and within a time frame to complete each unit.

The tutor and course material that ICS Learn provided were very helpful and I managed to complete my first unit with the guidance and support provided.

Although I am still at the early stage of the CIPD course I have found that my employer was pleased I under took self-directed study and was able to implement knowledge gained into every-day tasks at work.

My future plans would be to complete Level 5 and look at perhaps getting into a more focused HR role so that I can put into practice all that I have learned and possibly then move on to Level 7 in the future.
