CMI Student Stories: Emma Ward | CMI Level 7

Emma studied the CMI Level 7 Certificate. Read her story to learn more about her studying journey. 

I’m currently working as the Head of Sales for Key Group, an organisation committed to providing financial advice and solutions to homeowners across the UK.

I’m currently studying the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership, having previously used ICS Learn for a course years ago to gain a teaching assistant qualification.

Then and now, I’ve found ICS Learn to consistently make distance learning easy, providing a range of accredited qualifications at reasonable prices.

In this case my employer funded my course and the whole process was efficient and smooth.

In terms of my learning journey this time round, I was confident I could do online learning easily. As the course went on, I actually did find it challenging at times, however, the community of other learners was something I found to be particularly beneficial.

We shared challenges and tips, which in turn made me feel a lot more confident when using the student services communication channel. This made me feel like I was never alone while working through my qualification.

Honestly, you need to be motivated as an online learning student, but the concept provides great flexibility and of course, the ability to study whenever it suits you, so it’s worth it!

I had two tutors who were both brilliant. My second tutor Rachel helped me get to the finish line, giving me detailed feedback and plenty of discussion around topics before I began completing my assignments.

I found this especially useful, as well as the communication channel that you use to speak to your tutors.

I have already been promoted since starting my course and I have no doubt this is due to what I have learnt already and my commitment to the qualification. I am looking forward to continuing my management journey and progressing even further.

The course greatly improved my confidence, showing me that I have a lot more knowledge than I initially thought. It has given me a great insight into strategy, which is something I’m passionate about.

I'm also undoubtedly going to continue to be a member of the CMI community, to access the continued support and tools to help my career development.
