Student Services Help & Support

Our learning platform provider, Open LMS, has identified a serious security risk affecting technology used by websites worldwide. The warning explains that Open LMS is taking precautionary action to protect its customers.

Open LMS has advised that its customer websites will be temporarily taken offline while the security issue is addressed. This includes MSS.

We do not currently have a confirmed timescale. Access will be restored once Open LMS has applied the necessary security updates and confirmed it is safe to do so.

You can try accessing MSS again later. Updates on the wider issue are available through the Open LMS support announcement

If MSS has been taken offline, changing your browser or device will not restore access.

If MSS is unavailable and you cannot submit your assessment, please contact your Student Services team. They will advise you on the arrangements for any affected deadlines.

Any adjustments to assessment deadlines will be confirmed by the relevant team. Please do not assume that deadlines have automatically changed.

If your submission was interrupted, we cannot confirm whether the upload completed successfully. Once MSS is available again, check your assignment's submission status and resubmit if necessary.

There is currently no indication from the warning that existing coursework, grades or submissions have been lost. However, we cannot confirm the status of individual records until normal access is restored.

You can continue using any learning materials you have already downloaded. Materials and activities hosted exclusively within MSS may be inaccessible until service is restored.

The warning does not indicate that MSS has been hacked. Open LMS is taking precautionary action because of a security vulnerability affecting widely used website technology.

There is currently no evidence in the warning that student information has been compromised. The temporary shutdown is intended to reduce the risk of unauthorised access.

There is currently no instruction to change your password as a result of this issue. If any action is required, students will be informed through official communication channels.

Open LMS intends to restore access once the necessary security updates have been applied. Students should continue to access MSS through the usual official website.

Please contact your usual Student Services team and explain how the interruption is affecting your studies or assessment submission.

No. This is a wider issue affecting Open LMS customers and potentially other websites using the affected technology.

Any important updates or instructions for students will be communicated through the usual ICS Learn channels.
